On October 27, 2019, the project of “Fund of Liver Disease Treated by TCM and Western Medicine” initiated and established by Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control with the support of Beijing Han Dian Pharmaceutical Company, “the First Training Course of Fund of Liver Disease Treated by TCM and Western Medicine” was successfully held in Beijing You'an Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University!

This project gathers the academic strength of core experts of liver diseases in TCM and Western medicine. The training course was presided over by Prof. Xu Xiaoyuan and Prof. Li Xiuhui. The top teaching team composed of professors and experts, such as Prof. Nan Yuemin of the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University, Prof. Ye Yong'an of Dongzhimen Hospital, Prof. Che Niancong of Capital Medical University, Prof. Yao Shukun of China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Prof. Yang Huasheng of Beijing You’an Hospital, Prof. Jia Jianwei of Tianjin Second People’s Hospital, Prof. Wang Xianbo of Beijing Ditan Hospital, Prof. Lu Bingjiu of traditional Chinese medicine of Liaoning Province, has attracted nearly 100 doctors from Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and surrounding areas to participate actively.

In a welcoming speech, President Haiping said that the Hepatology Fund of TCM and Western Medicine, in the context of the national strategy of attaching equal importance to both TCM and Western medicine, will carry out cooperation between TCM and Western medicine, and conduct knowledge training of TCM theories and Chinese medicinals in various forms, which will greatly promote the play of advantages of traditional Chinese medicine and play an active role in the process of hepatitis prevention and treatment.

Secretary-General Yang Xizhong gave an important speech: First of all, he expressed great thanks to the leaders of the hospitals and the experts for their support. After that, he stressed the important instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping in October 25th on the work of TCM. “As a treasure of Chinese civilization, traditional Chinese medicine contains the concept and practical experience of the Chinese nation for nearly a thousand years. It embodies the broad wisdom of the Chinese people and the Chinese nation”. “We must follow the law of Chinese medicine development, inherit the essence, and keep innovating”. “We should adhere to the equal emphasis on both TCM and Western medicine, and promote the complementary and coordinated development of TCM and Western medicine”. The first training course of the Hepatology Fund of TCM and Western Medicin practiced the spirit of President Xi’s speech with practical actions and verified the correctness of establishing the Fund again. Chinese Hepatitis Fund has made positive contributions in prevention and research. As the only TCM fund since the Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control was founded, this Fund aims to promote the complementary advantages of TCM and Western medicine in liver disease treatment, mobilize the enthusiasm of clinical workers to learn TCM theories, practice and apply TCM and participate in scientific research, and provide training and research platform for liver disease clinicians In order to improve the level of diagnosis, treatment and scientific research of Chinese and Western medicine, and ultimately benefit more patients, it is expected that the fund will have a profound impact on the cause of liver disease treatment of TCM and Western medicine in the future.

As one of the chairman of the Foundation, Prof. Xu Xiaoyuan delivered a speech on behalf of the Academic Committee of the Foundation. Prof. Xu pointed out that most Chinese medicinals in clinical practice is western medicine prescription, and hoped that through the simplified training course, we can quickly grasp TCM knowledge in a short time. It is the practice of the spirit of the CPC Central Committee meeting that the training course responds to the call of our country. Finally, he expressed appreciation for the support of Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control and the sponsorship of Beijing Han Dian Pharmaceutical Company.

As the host of this session, Li Xiuhui pointed out that: The recent policy instructions of the state are in response to the call of our country. The Foundation set up a management committee and academic committee to ensure the smooth development of the Fund related work. The Foundation brings together the core backbone of various societies in the field of liver diseases, and the lecturers host the gathering of celebrities, which coincides with the current national policy and conforms to the time, place and people. She hoped that this training could help all to understand the knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine, and hoped that the trainees can study carefully and actively interact with each other, master the basic theoretical basis of traditional Chinese medicine through learning, and use what they learn.

Prof. Nan Yuemin described the latest progress in the diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases from the aspects of chronic viral hepatitis, non viral hepatitis, genetic metabolic liver disease, liver failure, etc. After that, Prof. Xu Xiaoyuan presided over the summary.

Prof. Ye Yong'an made a report on the research results of liver diseases in traditional Chinese medicine. From the “Tenth Five Year Plan” to the “Twelfth Five Year Plan” major scientific research projects, it can be used as an important reference for TCM research: Through “the Tenth Five Year Plan”, the research paradigm was established, and the core pathogenesis of hepatitis B was put forward; “the Eleventh Five Year Plan” achieved high-level evidence of the efficacy of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and formulated the diagnostic criteria of TCM syndromes. The HBeAg response rate was broken through 11.78% for the first time, and the concept of "dominant population" was proposed; "the 13th five year plan" verified the efficacy advantages of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, making accurate treatment possible. After that, Director Li Xiuhui presided over the discussion and made a summary speech.

Prof. Che Niancong explained the basis of TCM epistemology, the common points of TCM and Western medicine, the core characteristics of TCM, the four diagnosis methods, the eight principles of syndrome differentiation, the syndrome differentiation of Zang-Fu organs, and explained the theories of Yin Yang and five elements.

Prof. Yao Shukun vividly explained the content of TCM syndrome differentiation based on tongue manifestation from the aspects of the introduction of tongue diagnosis, methods of inspecting the tongue, tongue manifestation and syndrome differentiation of chronic liver disease, analysis of common medical records, etc., and actively interacted with the students to identify tongue manifestation and discuss with each other, which pushed the training to a first climax!

After the training, Prof. Yang Huasheng and Prof. Wang Xianbo respectively explained the deep analysis and standardized application of traditional Chinese medicine for liver diseases from the perspectives of syndrome differentiation in TCM and disease classification in Western medicine. Prof. Jia Jianwei and Prof. Lu Bingjiu supplemented the training in part.

After that, “pulse diagnosis”, “on-site test” and other interactive links between lecturers and students were conducted. The students actively participated in the training, the lecturers patiently tutored and organized the students to study in groups, leading a unprecedentedly warm atmosphere.

The training was successfully concluded with the warm applause of the trainees. During the training, the lecturers explained the complicated theory of traditional Chinese medicine vividly, helped the trainees to understand the theoretical basis of traditional Chinese medicine, and quickly taught the clinical practice experience, which effectively popularized the basic theoretical knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine and the relevant content of the rational application of traditional Chinese medicine for the participants. The active interaction on the spot enables the trainees to master the basic skills of “tongue diagnosis” and “pulse diagnosis” on the spot, which has an important guiding significance for the trainees to reasonably regulate the prescription of Chinese patent medicine in the future clinical practice.

It is reported that the second training course of Hepatology fund of TCM and Western Medicine will be held at the 20th National Academic Conference on Hepatobiliary Diseases of TCM on November 2, 2019. We look forward to the steady progress of the project under the management and drive of Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control and the support of experts!
